Vicky & Alan – A Sunset Cliffs Wedding

April 1, 2017 marked day one of Vicky and Alan's love story. Exactly four years later, on the stunning cliffs of Point Loma and under a perfectly warm spring sun, these two committed themselves to each other forever before an intimate crowd of their families and very closest friends. The scene was flawless and the bride and groom were beaming.

Wearing her mother's wedding dress and turning every head within sight, Vicky was escorted down the aisle by her brother-in-law. She had known for years that she would like to wear her mother's dress when she got married one day, but no one could have known it would fit her as if it were made for her! A few sections of lace delicately relocated and, voila!, this stylish 1980's dress became a modern vintage gem, and one that Vicky wore with grace and elegance. Her sweet mom, Connie leaned over to me right before Vicky walked down the aisle and proudly reminded me that her beautiful daughter was wearing the same dress she herself had worn as she walked down the aisle 40 years ago to marry Vicky's beloved late father. The significance of the moment Connie was about to witness was unparalleled.

The meaningful, Christ-centered, bilingual ceremony that followed was full of laughter, tears and oh-so-much joy! My high school Spanish came back to me enough to pick up bits of pieces of the wonderful message about marriage that Pastor Carlos delivered. Particularly touching and exemplary were Vicky and Alan's personal vows (which they read in English to one another, so I caught all of those words). I loved hearing the two of them publicly promise always to support one another in their endeavors and to be the goofy, free, authentic versions of themselves with each other that they each fell in love with. Their relationship has withstood the undulations of their past four years together, and it is strongly apparent that they have the depth of love, foundation of Christ, and support of family to carry them through a lifetime of marriage to come.

They came close, but Alan and Vicky weren't going to get away with an April Fool's wedding without any April Fool's jokes. Thankfully, I was also able to rally what's left of my Spanish to catch Pastor Carlos' final line telling the newly pronounced bride and groom that due to COVID they would be restricted from sharing a first kiss. After some good laughs at that one, Alan kissed his bride and the two of them couldn't stop smiling the rest of the day.

I have treasured my time getting to know this pair and am so thankful for the journey of marriage they have just begun together. I have no doubt Alan and Vicky will be a blessing to all who have the pleasure of knowing them from here on out, and that together they will do beautiful things for God's kingdom and for His glory. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
