Having met the Smith family not too long ago when I got to do a family/maternity session for them, I was SO looking forward to this one! Arika and Mike are the most laid-back and kind couple, and their precious toddler, Catherine, reminds me of Shirley Temple with her curls, her spunk and her irresistible sweetness. And now sweet baby Claire has been added to the family and she could not be a more perfect addition! Watching her adoring parents and big sister dote on her all morning melted my heart. And holding her and those adorable little round cheeks of hers had me wanting to stay all day!
If she didn't know any better, big sister Catherine may have thought the whole "photo shoot idea" was to celebrate her being a big sister. And so celebrate that we did! While Claire took breaks to nurse and cuddle with her mama, Catherine stepped right up and reminded me how well she shines in front of the camera! She helped me envision shots and made sure her parents followed instructions. She even took a few shots of her Daddy on my camera. This sweet child is an absolute doll and I loved every second of her innocent question asking and adorable commentary. As I packed up to leave at the end of the morning, Catherine told me, "I'm so sad you are leaving and I wish I could come with you, but I can't. But I will miss you!" No kidding! Needless to say, I left my heart right there in her hands.
While Catherine was certainly the best assistant I could ever ask for at a newborn session, the real star of this one was tiny little Claire. In three hours time, I heard a small cry from her once and I saw nothing but sweetness seep out of those pretty blue eyes and kissable cheeks. I am so thrilled for the Smith family, and so thrilled for baby Claire to have received the greatest blessing of all, being born to them!
